What is your cancellation policy?
We understand that schedule changes can be inevitable on occasion. We appreciate your consideration on those rare instances by contacting us at least 48 hours prior to your appointment to cancel or reschedule it.

Do you accept credit cards?
For your convenience, we accept Interac/debit, Visa and MasterCard. No personal cheques, please. Prepaid corporate and governmental vouchers will be accepted upon prior arrangement with your employer. We also accept gift certificates, but they must be pre-arranged with our office. Please contact us for more information.

What happens if I’m late to my appointment?
In order to maintain a smoothly operating schedule for other clients, late arrivals will result in a shortened session length so as not to delay service time for the next client.

Are your services tax deductible?
To the best of our knowledge, yes--they are deductible both in Canada and in the U.S.. We will provide you with the necessary proof of payment in order to deduct the expense on your income tax. However, we recommend that you consult your chartered accountant in order to verify this information and ask about any further requirements. (Please refer to the question "Do you participate in Medical Tourism [Medi-Tours]?" for those visiting us from the U.S.)

Do you take medical insurance?
We only take direct payments from clients. However, we do provide clients with the necessary proof of payment so they may submit claims to their insurance providers.

There are some private medical insurance providers (both in Canada and the U.S.) who may reimburse you for our service fees. The best way to determine whether our services are covered by your plan is to contact your provider directly. Specifically request information regarding your coverage and limits for clinical hypnotherapy and smoking cessation programs.

Do you teach hypnosis or hypnotherapy?
Seaside Hypnosis Center is 100% dedicated to a clinical, hypnotherapeutic practice. We may teach clients how to recognize and induce their own trance-states and how to use guided imagery in support of their regular sessions with us. However, we do not teach hypnotherapy as a career.

Do you participate in Medical Tourism (Medi-Tours)?
Yes, we participate in Medi-Tours. We have worked with clients from all over the world while they were visiting Victoria on vacation, business or in university. Many foreign residents find their exchange rate very favourable against our Canadian dollar and opt to seek therapy at Seaside Hypnosis Center. If this is the case with you, please call us as soon as possible so we can schedule you appointments around your stay. (Also please refer to the questions "Do you take credit cards?" and "Are your services tax deductible?")

SERVICES
Can I be hypnotized?
States of trance are normal for human beings. These natural cycles allow the mind to “cleanse” itself of daily stresses, concerns and burdens. Other familiar terms for “trance” are “daydreaming”, “wandering mind”, or “driver’s trance”.

How effective is hypnosis?
In a study conducted by clinical psychologist Dr. Alfred Barrios (B.S. Caltech, Ph.D. UCLA), he notes that, “... for psychoanalysis we can expect a recovery rate of 38% after approximately 600 sessions. For [Behaviour] therapy, we can expect a recovery rate of 72% after an average of 22 sessions, and for hypnotherapy we can expect a recovery rate of 93% after an average of 6 sessions”.

What exactly is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapiy is merely the application of guided imagery and suggestions to a state of trance for therapeutic purposes.

What services do you provide?
We offer hypnotherapy, hypnotherapeutic counselling and various hypnotherapy-compatible techniques to effectuate change. Each client is assessed and the best methods(s) for their particular issues are implemented.

These techniques may include NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), Time Line Regressions, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) or a host of other systems which can be integrated into the client's hypnosis sessions to maximize the efficacy of their therapy. This is all dependent on the client and their given circumstances in relation to their desired outcome.

Do you offer CD's for sale?
Every client is given one or more professionally recorded CD’s as part of their post-program support. There is no additional charge for these CD's. Although we do not offer general CD’s for sale at this time, we may be able to make a custom, hypnotherapeutic CD for you. Contact us so that we may discuss your needs.

How do you handle “quit-buddies” who want to quit smoking together?

Each of you will receive the individualized attention that we are known for during different time slots. Ideal for close friends, family members, spouses and co-workers, quitting with a buddy offers you a wonderful automatic support system. If there are several members in your group, we will work with you on consecutive days keeping your experience intact.

I want my employer to pay for my program. How do I go about it?
First contact your Human Resources Department and let them know of your plans. If you are cleared to proceed, contact our Director of Programs to establish an account for your company.

We currently participate as service providers to employee benefits programs for employers of all sizes at the local, provincial and federal levels. Our programs may be completely pre-paid, partially pre-paid, completely reimbursed or partially reimbursed by your employer. Always keep in mind that some of our programs require assessments prior to acceptance into them. This necessary stipulation will not be lifted regardless of corporate involvement or group size.

What proof would I have that I am under hypnosis?
Some of the many ways in which a person may know that he or she has been hypnotized are:

Will I remember everything that happened?
Someone undergoing hypnosis may remember everything the hypnotherapist is saying; they may only partially remember what is being said; or they may remember nothing at all. There are many levels of trance (or hypnosis), all of which can be equally as effective.

What is the difference between hypnosis and meditation?

In order to achieve a proper state of meditation, one is typically called upon to “empty” their mind of all thoughts. The attainment of this state can sometimes take years of practice to achieve. In hypnosis, the body and mind are taken into a very relaxed state of trance when specific suggestions are given. This, in turn, helps the client achieve their goals quickly and permanently.
